The twelfth house is by far the most elusive of the houses. It is the house of the unconscious and the denied. In synastry chart overlays, twelfth house planets can add a deep dimension to a relationship based on an elemental, unconscious connection.
In a natal chart, they can cause vague feelings of anxiety, anger, or depression for which a source cannot be located. Problems with sleeping or generalized anxiety issues are often the result of our twelfth house planets and their problems which are starving for proper expression in the outside world. For example, a person with a twelfth house Mars may deny themselves the right to outright yell at people to selfishly get what they want. That fundamental Mars energy which most people express once in a while just by having a tantrum to get their way, is suppressed when Mars is in the twelfth house. It may be felt by the twelfth-house Mars person as physical pain with no explainable cause, or restlessness that causes a lack of sleep. Sports or exercise is often a great outlet for twelfth-house Mars people to use in releasing this pent up aggression. These outlets allow the aggression to be released indirectly and unconsciously which is exactly how the twelfth house wants to do it. Instead of actually yelling at a person who is infuriating you, you can slam a bat into a ball.

Of course if this is taken too far, you may be convinced that you understand your partner's true motives, when you really may be mistaken. Care should be taken not to make assumptions with this placement. The sun here can lead to a false confidence in your gut feelings. Venus is a good placement here, adding a polite acceptance of your motives without any need to question them. Attraction is found with this position as you feel accepted by your partner without needing to prove yourself to them. When your partner's Mercury is in your twelfth house, a boost in communication about issues which are normally swept under the rug will result. An attempt will be made to discuss unconscious motivations, to pick them apart, and understand them. Your partner's Jupiter here can open this up even further. You may feel exposed when your partner's Jupiter falls in your twelfth house, like your mate can see into your unconscious more than you would like. This can lead to forthright conversations about these issues or, in some cases, it can just be too uncomfortable and lead you to run for the hills. Saturn can have the opposite effect of restricting this communication. Your partner's Saturn in your twelfth house can cause you to completely shut your partner out of this part of your psyche. Your partner will likely have no clue as to your deeper unconscious motivations and these issues will likely be avoided by you both.
