Uranus in the Houses...
Use the natal chart generator
to find the house of your Uranus. |
Operating on its own timetable and by its own set of rules, Uranus is both immovable and a powerful force for change. Wherever Uranus falls in a natal chart there will be a sense of disdain and disregard for established rules in favor of Uranus' unique sense of right and wrong. With Uranus, the rules must be acceptable on the grandest moral scale or they will be discarded or fought against swiftly and effectively if necessary.
As a mature, outer planet, Uranus is always trying to see things from the broadest viewpoint possible. In the house where Uranus is found you will want to keep everyone in mind when making a decision or change. The decision that benefits the group over the individual is always preferred by Uranus. A stagnant, worn-out or out-of-date situation is intolerable to Uranus. The planet has no fear of change. Change is necessary and it will be made swiftly when Uranus is in a house. |
Uranus in the 1st House...
Uranus brings a dry, indifference to the personality of the person with this planet falling into their first house. Feelings are intellectualized as the planet creates a barrier between the chart holder and the outside world by using reason over emotion. First-house Uranus people are even-tempered, direct and clear in their interactions with the world. They are difficult to rattle or shock and not likely to let it show if they are. Care is taken to follow standard social protocol when meeting new people and they aren't shy about introductions to either new people or new situations.

Uranus in the 2nd House...With Uranus in the second house there is a desire to detach from the material world because it may seem cumbersome. Uranus often sees the material world as a responsibility which traps a person into bills and the maintenance of homes, cars, etc. A need for freedom is fundamental to Uranus and the second house can feel like a restrictive place for this planet. Uranus here may lead a chart holder to find creative and unique ways of earning money. There may also be sudden changes in financial status.
Uranus in the 3rd House...The planet that makes its own rules can cause some havoc in the house of early schooling. Sudden changes in childhood schools are likely with a third-house Uranus and if only a few schools are attended, the chart holder may feel the need to break free. However, if given room to express itself and ample independence, Uranus can flourish in the third house. Uranus can lend its creative and original intellectual style to the third house and great success to the chart holder, but it must be fed with freedom and not starved with tedious rules. Spontaneous outings and surprise visits to family and neighbors are fitting with Uranus' manner of operating in the third house. Anything but a mundane routine keeps Uranus happy here. A third-house Uranus needs to be careful with commuting as it tends towards sudden, unexpected movements.
Uranus in the 4th House...During childhood a fourth-house Uranus can give the chart holder an unwelcomed feeling a detachment from their family. The detached feeling isn't chosen by the chart holder. It is simply present in the family. Perhaps a parent is frequently absent due to work, or there is a divorce or the death of a close family member during the chart holder's childhood.
|
Or, it can be a more subtle situation where the parents are always busy with their own matters. The chart holder may be an only child who simply has fewer people in the home and left feeling detached. It is common for chart holder to have frequent changes in their childhood. Changes in residences or economic status are common with Uranus in the fourth house. As an adult, the chart holder with Uranus in their fourth house will transfer these feelings into the family they develop. There may be unconscious need to detach from home and family or to create crises that invoke change. Home and family life may feel stagnant without frequent upheavals or changes. Family heritage is likely filled with unexplained breaks in the family line and isn't of great interest to the chart holder. At least one parent is seen as distant.
Uranus in the 5th House...
Authentic self-expression is the gift of Uranus in the fifth house. Uranus is never phony, so the chart holder with a fifth-house Uranus is able to create authentic self-representations through art. In romance, a fifth-house Uranus has a detached and freedom-loving feeling. The placement doesn't produce a mushy, romantic personality. However, the chart holder will present themselves authentically to their partners in romance and will expect the same in return. Uranus has no patience for false personas or games. Honesty is valued as well as straightforward communication. Any person who attempts to trap this chart holder using dramatic emotion will be in for a shock. The chart holder will see right through it and will demand that the person comes clean or they will be left behind. Uranus in the fifth house can mean sudden break ups in romantic relationships usually caused by the chart holder feeling constricted. There may be accidental pregnancies with a fifth-house Uranus, and adoption may be desired with this position.
Uranus in the 6th House...
Uranus is not comfortable in the sixth house. It constantly yearns to break free from what is sees as the petty concerns of this house. When trapped here, Uranus will find ways to make it easier by inventing new work techniques which make things more efficient here or simply detach and ignore the issues of work and service. This ultimately backfires because the matters of any house can be completely ignored. When this happens, Uranus can explode into a tyrant insisting that others do the work that Uranus should have done a long time ago. At its best, a sixth-house Uranus doesn't expect to be served anymore than it is willing to serve others. It would rather remain as separate as possible and find ways of navigating the daily routines of work life that allow the most freedom for everyone. It is often very successful at this by coming up with novel approaches to efficiency and work. But when it feels trapped here, it can become reactive and aggressive leading to stress related illnesses if no outlet is allowed for release.
Uranus in the 7th House...A tendency to feel suddenly trapped in relationships and partnerships is often found with a seventh-house Uranus. These chart holders can hold a great deal of frustration at bay until it just becomes too much to push aside. Then, they explode and run for their freedom. People with Uranus in their seventh house resent partners who try to give them boundaries. They refuse to be controlled, but they also offer their partners a great deal of freedom. Uranus in the seventh house has a detached feeling and emotional drama is not addressed. The easiest way to lose a seventh-house Uranus partner is to suffocate them with emotional drama. A one-to-one relationships or partnership based on trust and loose boundaries is the only happy relationship with a seventh-house Uranus. Those with Uranus in their seventh house or Aquarius on their descendant are attracted to Aquarius-like people who are detached and unemotional.

Uranus in the 8th House...
Watch out for sudden, unexpected losses when Uranus is in the eighth house, like a spouse who suddenly files for divorce or an unexpected tax audit. These events are unexpected to the chart holder, but people who know the chart holder may see these things coming. Uranus can be oblivious, not noticing things that others see as obvious. Its detached, freedom-seeking nature is always looking elsewhere rather than at what is happening in the here and now. Then the chart holder is shocked when their life gets turned upside down, but had they been paying attention, they could have avoided it. Uranus doesn't feel comfortable with the intensely deep commitments of the eighth house. A habit of unconsciously separating from partners is common with an eighth-house Uranus. Uranus doesn't even realize it's doing this until suddenly, they are getting a divorce. A quiet rebelliousness towards taxes and those frustrating monetary obligations in life often leads an eighth-house Uranus into problems when it tries to deal with these issues in its usual unconventional ways. Odd planet that it is, Uranus gets flipped around in the eighth house. Here, Uranus needs to learn to let go of its need to let go. The eighth house is about intimacy and the dynamic of give and take. These ideas are foreign and distasteful to Uranus who always wants to break free. While most planets need to learn a little detachment in the eighth house, Uranus needs to learn to balance its detached nature with a necessary amount of intimacy.
Uranus in the 9th House...
Uranus wants to run free in the ninth house and explore every new thing. These chart holders don't follow rules or ideas without examining them and, even then, they are never likely to commit to any of them. There are too many new things to experience. Foreign people or cultures are interesting to these chart holders. Exploring different philosophies and religions is fun for them and they truly consider and examine each new idea. However, all of this need for freedom can actually make ninth-house Uranus people rigid in that they don't tolerate people who aren't interested in exploring new ideas. People who have steadfast religious or political views are seen as rigid and narrow-minded. These chart holders often feel that they are philosophically superior because they choose not to subscribe to established views. They may call themselves open-minded while forgetting that they are judging those who choose to commit to established ideas. However, when they keep this tendency on a conscious level and don't allow it to be their focus, ninth-house Uranus people can contribute a great deal to society through teaching and researching where their detached, intellectual style never stops searching for answers.
Uranus in the 10th House...Uranus in the tenth house carves its own path, putting its own desires before its concern over public image. For this reason, the personas of those with Uranus in their tenth vary greatly, but there is always a detached, off-key sense of public opinion. This position can lead to fame or notoriety, but it will always be due completely to the chart holder's motivations and decisions often making them famous for new and different things or for things which are unrelated to their career that would normally be kept private. Even when things are going awry in the public's eye, Uranus in the tenth house stays on its chosen course. The public often sees these chart holders as stuck on a one-way street. They are determined and have intense faith in their chosen paths to success. Then, when a sudden change occurs in the chart holder's life, it is very news worthy and causes a stir.
Uranus in the 11th House...Uranus feels its power in the eleventh house where it relishes in working toward social change. Having Uranus in the house it rules gives the chart holder a comfortable feeling in groups and in friendly, acquaintance type relationships. They prefer these relationships over close, emotional relationships. Working with others toward a common goal is inspiring and satisfying for them. The idiosyncrasies of individual members are accepted no matter how outlandish and are treated as normal parts of what makes up a group. Uranus doesn't feel threatened by differences and believes their acceptance makes them superior to those who are unaccepting. This can make them push too hard for what they believe is best for society. Sometimes, their excitement about making sweeping social change in a one-size-fits-all fashion blinds to them to the fact that we are also individuals with different opinions. Just like anyone else, these chart holders can also be wrong, and their zest for change can lead groups in the wrong direction. In general however, these people are good at keeping relationships with people somewhat detached and non-judgmental. They excel at the reciprocal style of relating in social networking often gaining monetarily here from social connections and their ability to work through bureaucracy seamlessly.
Uranus in the 12th House...Uranus, the crusader for righteous change, has its spirit squashed in the twelfth house. These chart holders grow up feeling like they should never rock the boat and create disturbances in the status quo. There is always a vague feeling that they understand the world better than the rest of their family, but they're not allowed to reach out and grab the world they see. They are bound to the world of their parents. It isn't that their parent's world is bad. It may be that their parents are bound by certain social protocols in their community or by their careers and the chart holder just feels closed in and blocked. In adulthood, however, the chart holder is released from the parental bond and can make those changes, but it's always like walking in mud. The twelfth house muddles the picture and although the twelfth-house Uranus person wants to break out and make changes, they are never quite sure if they should. Working with established organizations to push for social change is an excellent outlet for them. They may also find release in art. Their hidden talent is to gently push for change and righteousness while realizing that people are comfortable in their established ways and don't want to be pushed too hard or fast. They are skilled at helping with compassion.
