3rd House in Astrology...

The third house represents a constant search for knowledge and the experience of the immediate environment. Intellect, communication abilities and style of learning are described by the signs and planets in the third house as well as the desire to disperse the knowledge acquired. Going from subject to subject and person to person to find every new bit of knowledge or gossip is fascinating to a typical third-house person, in addition to talking about what is learned. Even the style of speaking and desire or reluctance to speak are third-house matters. Whether information is quickly skimmed or read slowly and carefully is determined by planets and signs in the third house. A person's confidence level regarding their ability to learn is also described by planets and signs in the third house. Any kind of networking with people in the immediate community, and travels around the local community are determined by the third house as these activities relate to communication and generally involve the exchange of information. The atmosphere and feelings regarding early schooling are also described by the third house as this is where people begin their quest for information and learn to socialize and navigate in their immediate environment.
The third house represents our early education, learning throughout our lives, any form of communication and interactions with our immediate environment.
Planets in the 3rd House...
Sun in the 3rd House...
A third-house sun is driven to learn, explore, and enjoy their immediate environment. The third-house sun person enjoys being on the go and is easily bored. Third-house suns may tend toward being more intellectual or more social. For the more social types, whatever is happening with their friends and family is important to them and they want to stay in touch and keep close contact with these people, especially their family. Information is generally obtained from the news, and although they find the news interesting and will check it daily, they don't probe deeply into issues. For the more intellectual types, there is an irrepressible desire to acquire knowledge. They relish in taking various pieces of knowledge and putting them together like puzzles that need solving. An interest in any type of vehicle, such as, bicycles, cars, or skate boards, is common from a young age with third-house suns. Social or intellectual, early schooling is a central issue regardless of whether the experience is positive or negative.

Moon in the 3rd House...
Similar to a third-house sun position, a third-house moon is extremely interested in their immediate environment. Judging time, distance and directions are skills which come naturally to a third-house moon as they are extremely adept at navigating their immediate environment. Any kind of vehicle is paramount for a third-house moon because it allows them freedom to get around their environment to visit people and places. A third house-moon is at ease with learning, and finds it comforting. Like the third-house sun, early schooling is a central issue whether it is positive or negative. This position also inclines a person to communicate their feelings, and lends an ability to explain their feelings clearly. it gives a bit of detachment to the moon's emotions because it adds an intellectualism to the moon by house position, but the moon's sign is more influential than this house placement.
Mercury in the 3rd House...
As the ruler of the third house, Mercury is at home here. It is nearly impossible for this placement to have a negative effect. Even with hard aspects to Saturn or Pluto, Mercury in its own house will do well. This placement fuels and speeds the intellect. The only possibly bad effect here is to create a chart holder who cannot slow down their mind enough to focus. Even a Mercury in hard aspect to Saturn in the sign of Capricorn, for example, will work well and create an intellect which focuses intensely when learning, and always thinks before speaking. Generally, a third-house Mercury generates a quick and fluent thinker who is agile with words. Mercury in the third house also generates activity in the daily life of the chart holder. A busy mind leads to a busy body which bores easily and prefers an active, on the go life.
Venus in the 3rd House...Venus can slow things down a bit in the third house, but with a planet so charming and in love with beauty, it's no real loss. Often, Venus in the third house finds beauty in literature, books, language and the art of communication. Venus doesn't want to rush through experiences with any of them. Venus savors what it loves, and in the third house, it loves learning and communicating. Knowledge and early education are seen as valuable with Venus in the third house. Keeping tabs on neighbors and family is also valuable to a chart holder with this placement. A third-house Venus sees weekend trips to visit family across town as polite and fulfilling. it is also likely for a chart holder with a third-house Venus to live near their family so that frequent visits and communication is easy.
Mars in the 3rd House...The will is exerted with a third-house Mars through communication, early education, information and short distance travel. A chart holder with Mars in the third house is likely to speak bluntly. Mars here wants to win arguments, be correct, and is willing to put up a fight about it. At best, a third-house Mars is assertive in communication and defends what it believes to be correct. At worst, Mars in the third house is an intellectual bully who must be correct at any cost. This position makes a chart holder feel that being connected with family and neighbors is vital to their sense of self. They need to get around town and stay in touch with what's happening around them.

Jupiter in 3rd House...
Jupiter in the third house is an excellent position. At worst, you get a "know-it-all" chart holder who is convinced that they have all of the answers. Generally however, Jupiter in the third house makes early schooling come easily and gives many opportunities to the chart holder for success in education. A third-house Jupiter appreciates how information and knowledge open doors in life and are useful beyond being mere facts. By putting facts together in a useful way, Jupiter in the third house can gain valid power and authority within its social circle and community, rather than using it to prove that they are superior to others simply because they have accumulated more knowledge. Jupiter in the third house is likely to have a large circle of people in their immediate community with whom they communicate and visit frequently. Freedom to move about in their immediate environment is crucial with this placement. Jupiter never wants to be restricted.
Saturn in the 3rd House...Early schooling can seem restrictive and overly serious with a third-house Saturn. This is an awkward placement for Saturn because the third house is light and fast paced, while Saturn is stubbornly patient, careful and slow moving. This incompatibility can create a need to rebel against the rules of school and the local community. In the best scenario, Saturn brings careful intellectual focus to the third house, along with patience in exploring the immediate environment, rather than the usual rushing around that is common in the third house. In terms of communication, a third house Saturn can stunt and inhibit a chart holder's ability to verbally express themselves. At best, Saturn here will simply help a chart holder choose words carefully and communicate in a purposeful and thoughtful manner. Because the third house also entails short trips and local travel, Saturn here can add a cautious tone to driving or any kind of local commuting.
Uranus in the 3rd House...The planet that makes its own rules can cause some havoc in the house of early schooling. Sudden changes in childhood schools are likely with a third-house Uranus and if only a few schools are attended, the chart holder may feel the need to break free. However, if given room to express itself and ample independence, Uranus can flourish in the third house. Uranus can lend its creative and original intellectual style to the third house, and great success to the chart holder, but it must be fed with freedom and not starved with tedious rules. Spontaneous outings and surprise visits to family and neighbors are fitting with Uranus' manner of operating in the third house. Anything but a mundane routine keeps Uranus happy here. A third-house Uranus needs to be careful with commuting as it tends toward sudden, unexpected movements.
Neptune in the 3rd House...Neptune in the third house can bring as much cloudy confusion here as it can bring brilliance. Like Uranus and Jupiter, Neptune needs freedom. But unlike Jupiter and Uranus, Neptune rarely uses it constructively. Sliding out of responsibilities or rationalizing them away are both common pitfalls of Neptune. In the house of early education, these tendencies can cause irresponsible behavior in school, ranging from daydreaming rather than listening, to outright truancy. Neptune in the third house is at its best if it is allowed to grow and experience on its own timetable and with loads of freedom. It can then lend its romantic, compassionate and unconditionally accepting feel to the third house which can lead to creative works of literature and art. Verbal communication is often clouded with a third-house Neptune as the planet doesn't think in terms of facts, which are the meat of the third house. Rather, Neptune thinks with feelings and would prefer to speak with these feelings in place of words. This creates a discordance between feelings and their expression in words which can come across as dishonesty or muddled meanings.
Pluto in the 3rd House...Power struggles and control issues are often a problem in early schooling with Pluto in the third house of a natal chart. There are likely to be control stand-offs with authority figures in school and the possibility of quitting school and starting over again or switching schools is likely. Pluto in the third house is likely to have a controlling style in conversation. Using words as weapons is common with this placement. At best, a conversation style which is slow and careful about choosing words and directing the flow of conversation is found. The chart holder is likely to be skilled at gaining information from others without revealing information about themself. In the best scenario, a third-house Pluto gives depth of concentration in school and in any learning throughout the chart holder's life. An investigative mind that likes to probe into puzzling problems or puzzling people is found with Pluto in the third house.
