In the metaphoric journey of the soul through the houses, you have learned how to work with people in the physical sense in the sixth house to accomplish goals and care for people's physical needs. You now enter the second air house, and again detach from the physical world. In the seventh house, you learn the subtle intricacies of the mental aspect of relationships. There is nothing physical about this house. It's about relating to people on an intellectual level. Here you use your intellect to influence people, to negotiate with them and because you are still in the realm of self-development, it is also the house of getting what you want through relationships with other people.

This is where you learn the art of compromise. You have evolved beyond simply taking what you want for yourself as you did in houses one through four. Now, you learn that in the long run, it's better to compromise with the people in your life. This way, you are more likely to keep the things you want because you have already discussed the details and made agreements with people.

You have understandings or even contracts with people regarding what is yours and what is theirs. This is the house of acknowledging the importance of intellectual understandings between people. The seventh house is where, for the first time in your evolution through the houses, you really want to hear the other person's point of view. You are finally honestly concerned about what other people have to say. In the seventh house, you realize that we are all connected. There's no point in having everything the way you want it, if everyone hates you for it.

We exist together. If we don't get along and agree on things, we aren't really happy. We need each other, so we must get along and respect each other's thoughts, ideas, needs and wants. However, this is not an altruistic understanding of always treating people fairly for the sake of adhering to greater morals.

The seventh house is not a universal house. It's still a relationship house, so it's an understanding of treating people fairly in order to keep relationships running smoothly. In this house, you are still developing yourself. You are developing yourself by working in the realm of relationships. You are learning how to suppress your own desires for the sake of other people. You are learning how to respect the ideas and desires of other people, but you are still looking out for yourself. You have just matured beyond looking out for yourself regardless of other people.
