The Nodes of the Moon: The North & South Nodes in Astrology...

Like a newborn breaking out of the comfort and security of the womb
into the unpredictable and unknown world, we have an unconscious need to move
from the known world of our South Node into the frightening, unknown world of our North Node.

The Moon's Nodes...

As points in astrology rather than planets, houses or signs, the moon's nodes represent issues in our lives. As points opposite each other, they represent a constant tug, and an internal struggle between opposing desires and needs surrounding these issues. The issues they represent depend on the house and sign in which they fall. Our style of living out these issues depends on their signs.

The Moon's Nodes Represent our Past Lives & the Lessons of our Current Life...

The nodes are often equated to our past lives versus our current life,
with the South Node representing our past lives and the North Node representing our current life.
The South Node represents our knowledge from past lives and lessons we already learned. The North Node represents our destiny in this life, and what we are here to accomplish. The comfort we feel with our South Node versus the discomfort we experience with our North Node is certainly reminiscent of a past versus current life dynamic. Moreover, our natural abilities with the matters of our South Node versus our inexperience with our North Node serve as provocative evidence. As a way of hearkening back to our past, we have an intense desire to live our lives in the comfort of our South Node, which we know so well. It gives us peace. We are confident in our South Node's house and sign and we really do feel like we were born into this life already having experienced and learned the lessons of that house and sign. We have natural abilities from early in our childhoods in our South Node's house and sign. It seems like we were born to excel there.
The North Node's house and sign feel alien. It's uncharted territory in this life. It's unknown and downright scary. We avoid it, while at the same time, we know we must venture into it and do our best to conquer it. The North Node gives our life a sense of purpose, and it truly feels like our destiny. Success in the house and sign of our North Node rewards us with an amazing feeling of triumph - making us feel as though we have slayed our demon and completed our mission in this life! Yet it is a perpetual struggle. It's never easy to leave the comfort of the South-Node. Often, it's a two steps forward, one step back dynamic. We have times when we feel daring and want to push forward in our North Node. Then, as soon as we meet difficulty, the fear comes rushing in and we retreat. We then spend some time in our South Node until the next time we feel the burning need to grow and push into the unknown that we cannot deny is our rightful future. The back and forth struggle can take a lifetime, and many people never feel like they can completely conquer their North Node's house and sign issues. Yet, the unconscious desire to try never fades and every bit of progress is rewarding.

The Moon's Nodes' House or Sign...

Although we constantly strive to conquer our North Node challenges,
we identify more with our South Node, and we see it as who we are.
Because we spend so much of our lives in the house/sign of our South Node, and our South Node's talents figure so prominently in our lives, the following descriptions are written from a South Node perspective.

North Node in the 1st House or in Aries & South Node in the 7th House or in Libra...

Born into this life an expert in the art of one-to-one relationships, those with their South Node in the seventh house or in Libra excel at friendships, partnerships and marriage. These relationships provide a comfortable haven for them to express themselves and they enjoy the feedback they receive about themselves. Yet, the ease they experience in one-to-one relationships inhibits the growth of their individual ego and their true self-expression. With their North Node in the first house or Aries, they are reluctant to put themselves out there into the world and express themselves on their own rather than through a relationship. Unlike the seventh house or Libra where we receive constant feedback from another person, in the first house or Aries we have to put it all on the line without any immediate way to gauge the reaction of someone else. So, it requires courage, but in the long run, these chart holders really come to know their real selves and gain self-sufficiency in their self-expression if they work on developing their independence, which is the challenge of the first-house North Node.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced with one-to-one interactions with people, using them to steer your course through life.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 7th House and Libra ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn independence and how to move through the world without relying on relationships.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 1st House and Aries ways.

North Node in the 2nd House or in Taurus & South Node in the 8th House or in Scorpio...

An inborn preference for combining efforts with another person in an intimate relationship to provide for themselves in this material world, people with their South Node in the eighth house or in Scorpio naturally pair up with a mate to set up house and build a life. It's easy this way and it feels comfortable. By combining efforts and assets with another person, they feel secure. However, regardless of how easy this seems, it always comes with some sacrifice. Nothing is free is this world. When we work as a team with someone, we give up freedom. With this position, the South Node's desire to feed off this comfortable relationship costs these chart holders their ability to make their own financial decisions. They have to make joint decisions on purchases and on savings. On a larger scale, they must compromise their values. By always gravitating toward getting tied up in intimate relationships and not developing their own ability to make it alone in this world financially, they give up their right to pick and choose many of the things they value. Whether the things they value cost money or not, their whole world is caught up in this relationship and everything is intertwined. While, at the same time, their North Node constantly yearns to break free. They want to be strong enough to make it on their own. They want to make their own money and make their own financial decisions. These chart holders want to control their own lives and decide on their own what's valuable or not valuable. But, the idea of doing it alone is scary. So they vacillate between the safety of their relationship and their desire to stand on their own feet, which is the normal back and forth motion between the South and North Nodes.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at building a life and gaining resources through an intimate relationship.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 8th House or Scorpio ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how to build your life and resources on your own.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 2nd House or Taurus ways.

North Node in the 3rd House or in Gemini & South Node in the 9th House or in Sagittarius...

With a ninth-house or Sagittarius South Node, these chart holders seem to be born having strong beliefs about the rights and wrongs in the world. Often using the word "should", they find themselves giving advice to anyone who will listen. So many philosophical, religious or political issues people seem to struggle with are crystal clear to them. Looking back, it feels like from the time they could speak, they had these issues sorted though well enough to construct arguments that would always serve to impress. When people disagree with them, they are happy to debate. Because their confidence level is high when it comes to their stance on these global issues, they aren't easily intimidated by opposing views. Whereas the world seems so large and rifled with conflicting issues to many people, it seems simple to them. It doesn't overwhelm them as it does so many other people. Yet, despite the gift of their grand view, they can't help but feel envious of the people who have the patience to painstakingly analyze small pieces of information, put them together, and understand the details of the world so well. For those people with their North Node in the third house or Gemini, it's difficult to focus like this. It causes great uneasiness and frustration in these people. They know it is a skill they should develop, and they know they will always be holding themselves back from greater achievement unless they conquer this challenge of their North Node.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced in holding strong opinions about the rights and wrongs in the world while dismissing detailed information as trivial.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 9th House or Sagittarius ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how to stop making generalizations about how the world should be and look deeper into things by sorting through the facts.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 3rd House or Gemini ways.

North Node in the 4th House or in Cancer & South Node in the 10th House or in Capricorn...

Born achievers, people who have their South Node in the tenth house or Capricorn have a competitive nature that fuels their natural drive to impress the world with their abilities. Working hard to increase their status and gain material rewards for themselves, effort is their comfort zone. If they don't have a project or goal they're working toward, they get restless. Always reaching up to higher levels of achievement in the world represents their natural state. They are comfortable in the any limelight their success brings them and they don't feel awkward or overwhelmed when in the public eye. What is strangely awkward and difficult for them is home life. For most people, home represents a haven from the outside, public world. It's a place to rest and escape. Amazingly, for them, it is all too often, a frustrating place where they feel they are wasting their time. They often feel out of place at home and constantly look for ways to leave. The domestic life can be suffocating for them, and can even stir fears in them. They may feel like bad things are always ready to happen at home, and it can feel hauntingly dangerous. Another expression of the North Node in the fourth house or in Cancer is feeling trapped by home life. These chart holders may feel as though they constantly need to work at their career in to order to avoid being stuck at home. Either way, they resist home life. As children, they can't wait to move away from home. As adults, they resist spending time at home, preferring to spend their time making their mark in the outside world. Of course, the feeling that they are neglecting their home and family life constantly lingers inside them. Until they address it and work on developing their home life, they feel unbalanced. They always know that to be a complete success, they need to feel comfortable at home as well as out in the world.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at competing and succeeding in the world of careers and social status.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 10th House or Capricorn ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how to appreciate family life and home without feeling trapped by it.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 4th House or Cancer ways.

North Node in the 5th House or in Leo & South Node in the 11th House or in Aquarius...

From birth, there is a preference for being lost in the crowd when the South Node is in the eleventh house or in Aquarius. The world of large organizations and social groups is a comfortable place for these people. They know how to operate there and how to function as one of many. Experts at navigating social networks, these chart holders expertly pick through groups to find the people who can propel them forward in the world. They are well liked and make friends easily. With an intuitive understanding of how to keep an appropriate distance with people, they are masters at associating with business associates and acquaintances. They are tactful about social issues and always know how to be politically correct. Fitting in with groups is their comfort zone and they benefit from the associations they make. It is shining in their own right for their own unique talents that is awkward for them. They don't want to stand out in the crowd because they don't have enough confidence in their individuality. People with their North Node in the fifth house or in Leo, don't trust their own taste or creativity. It's easier to follow the crowd and their trends. Just wear what everyone else wears, go where everyone else goes. These chart holders always know they should develop confidence in their ability to stand out from others and do the things that represent their true selves. The need to develop their North Node is felt most powerfully in matters of romance. They can make friends with anyone, but starting a romance with the person of their choice is a painfully fearful experience. Putting themselves on the line by making a romantic proposition to someone, even if it's subtle, causes them stress. After all, if they get rejected, it's their whole idea of their own individuality that gets crushed. A true feeling of completeness will only be found when these chart holders learn to trust their own style, creativity and individuality. Developing faith in themselves this way is how they conquer their fifth-house North Node.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at social networking, following current styles and trends, and fitting in with large groups of people.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 11th House or Aquarius ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how to develop faith in your own individuality and creativity.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 5th House or Leo ways.

North Node in the 6th House or in Virgo & South Node in the 12th House or in Pisces...

Since childhood, those with a twelfth-house or Pisces South Node have understood how hiding in the chaos of the world sets them free. Being a part of anything that's bigger than them makes them feel at ease. Whether it's being a member of a huge machine like the government or the military or getting lost in the vastness of nature, they know it's easier to be a small part of something big than it is to be a big part of something small. There is very little accountability, responsibility and attention to detail required when someone is a small part of something so huge. They are barely significant. These chart holders know that being a big part of a small group or project puts more of the onus directly on them. They know people will notice if they make mistakes or don't attend to every detail. This is why they naturally avoid these settings. It isn't their nature to be attentive to details. They prefer the big picture and see it clearly. Even if their individual contribution isn't noticed at all, it still satisfies them to know they were part of something grand. They think big and feel trapped when they are responsible for details. Being forced into a daily-chore routine is extremely frustrating for them. They run from it as though it may cause them physical pain. As far as these people are concerned, not getting tied down with too many little jobs and detailed responsibilities, frees their mind to wander. They can use their imagination and find simple answers to large problems or come up with new ideas that have the potential to help people in mass. The problem comes when they want to put these grand ideas into a real, concrete form. They secretly yearn for the ability to focus long enough to bring their big ideas into reality. The ultimate success for them would be to turn one of their imagined plans into reality by focusing and attending to every detail until the job is complete. It would represent achieving the challenge of their sixth-house or Virgo North Node.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at seeing the big picture and avoiding tedious details by getting lost in large projects or groups of people.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 12th House or Pisces ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how to develop focus and see things through in their entirety from beginning to end.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 6th House or Virgo ways.

North Node in the 7th House or in Libra & South Node in the 1st House or in Aries...

Independent from birth, people with first-house or Leo South Nodes never need to confer with other people to make decisions. From childhood, they are sure of themselves. They move forward without hesitation because this is their natural energy. A confidence about their self-image makes them appear fearless and they aren't afraid to put themselves first. Life is for the strong and brave who know what they want. Decisive and direct, they take what they believe is rightly theirs from the world because no one is going to hand it them. These people are leaders and the confidence they exude makes people believe in them, but there is always a voice in their head reminding them that they should at least consider other people in their decisions. No one lives on an island. The decisions we make affect other people. Even though these chart holders find it extremely frustrating and restrictive to consider this, they know it's true and it's always lingering in their mind. From childhood, they have believed people should look out for themselves and it has never seemed like anyone has even taken the time to look out for them. Yet the feeling that people are judging them as rash and selfish lurks. They push it away and reject it because they fear that if they consider other people in their decision making, they will lose their independence. More importantly, they won't get their way, and that scares them. They know compromise means giving up some of what they want. There are clearly many instances when it's the right thing to do, but these people always get a trapped feeling and decide to move ahead on their own. The voice in their head will never stop. Learning to work with people and compromise, as their North Node is always pressing them to do, is the only way to really feel like a success. In the end, that's what they really want.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at being independent and moving through the world without relying on relationships.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 1st House or Aries ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how appreciate compromise and the benefits of the input you receive in one-to-one interactions with people.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 7th House or Libra ways.

North Node in the 8th House or in Scorpio & South Node in the 2nd House or in Taurus...

Those with a second-house or Taurus South Node are born with the idea that another person should never take care of them and support them. From childhood, these chart holders have assumed they are on their own in this world. If they don't make the money to provide for themselves, they simply won't have what they need. It isn't that they are resentful of this dynamic or that they fight against it. Rather it's simply their reality. They even prefer it. When you rely on someone else for your basic needs, you are indebted to them. There are always strings attached, and no one knows this better than those with a second-house or Taurus South Node. They would rather have their freedom to consistently adhere to their own values than be required acquiesce to whatever another person deems as important when it comes to spending money, investing money or even investing time and effort. However, there is an inherent loneliness in this approach. They may never need anyone, and they may always be able to satisfy their own value system, but they are haunted by the notion that it might be more satisfying to join with another person and experience the intimacy of sharing in the struggle to survive and support themselves. The ultimate success for them would be finding the strength to let another person into this most fundamental part of their life and trusting them. Because the second and eighth houses deal with issues of survival in our material world and the ability to share our resources, it may seem like joining with another person in an intimate relationship and trusting them with these issues is a threat to the very survival of an eighth-house or Scorpio North Node person. Yet, in doing this, they ultimately feel successful and complete.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at building your life and resources on your own.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 2nd House or Taurus ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to learn how to appreciate the benefits of building a life and gaining resources through an intimate relationship.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 8th House or Scorpio ways.

North Node in the 9th House or in Sagittarius & South Node in the 3rd House or in Gemini...

By focusing on the details of their immediate environment, people with a third-house or Gemini South Node have known from birth how they can neatly escape the stress and difficulty of tackling global and philosophical issues by concentrating on facts. These people love facts, figures, and trivia. Sorting through information and putting it together to solve problems comes naturally to them. They intuitively know how to pull various pieces of information from the environment and put it all together to find answers to questions. What's more, they are acutely aware of the information available in their immediate surroundings. They enjoy any type of communication and excel at delivering information in a concise, yet thorough manner. Their thinking is organized and they express themselves clearly in conversation unless the topic gets too abstract or global. When opinions, and ethical or moral judgments become the subject matter, these people are out of their comfort zone. They may continue with the conversation, and have some things to add, but they lose the confidence they had before the subject changed. Whereas, they may have been leading the conversation before, now they follow and nod. Global issues of right and wrong don't spark their interest. People with their North Node in the Ninth house or Sagittarius often feel that no human being is entitled to judging others on moral or philosophical issues. These people lack the ability to have faith in their opinions because opinions aren't based on facts. When they have an opinion, it isn't felt wholeheartedly, and therefore, they also lack the confidence to express their opinions like they own them. It's awkward and they prefer less universal topics. Nonetheless, these chart holders yearn for the ability to see the world on a more global scale and to have faith in beliefs that aren't supported by facts. By working on their ninth-house or Sagittarius North Node, they can become the wise, worldly people they secretly want to become.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at dealing with facts and avoiding broad, philosophical issues of right and wrong in the world.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 3rd House or Gemini ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to develop the ability to have faith in your own opinions and judgments without needing to base them on facts.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 9th House or Sagittarius ways.

North Node in the 10th House or in Capricorn & South Node in the 4th House or in Cancer...

Those with a fourth-house or Cancer South Node are born finding home life truly comforting. From childhood, family life has been their haven from the world. Battles between family members or chronic domestic disputes, which would have many people yearning to get away, are seen by these chart holders as minor nuisances because the home environment is so soothing to them. They always strive to see the good in their family members and enjoy caring for them. The assumption of a happy, supportive home life is so deeply ingrained in their psyche that many of these chart holders have an idealized vision of their home life that really doesn't even exist. Because our South Node represents what we are born knowing, fourth-house or Cancer South Node people inherently know how to do their part in making home a supportive, happy place. It's venturing into the outside world that's challenging for them. The world of achievement in a career, making money and earning social prestige in the community is always something they know they should conquer. A part of them is constantly reminding themselves to get out of the house and make a life in the outside world. When they do venture into the world, it's always a bit awkward. They see themselves as a peg that doesn't quite fit in the world of careers and social status competitions. The comfort of home always calls to them, and it's quite difficult for them to turn away from it. Yet, ultimately, it's success in the outside world that makes them feel complete and happy.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at and greatly appreciate home and family life.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 4th House or Cancer ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to develop the ability to compete and succeed in the world of careers and social status.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 10th House or Capricorn ways.

North Node in the 11th House or in Aquarius & South Node in the 5th House or in Leo...

From birth, developing a creative talent and expressing it through a medium, such as, art or even a relationship constitutes a favorite pastime for fifth-house or Leo South Node people. Creative and artistic activities make them feel alive and they are naturals in these arenas. Romance is their ultimate joy. In romantic relationships, they can radiate their talents and relish in their lover's appreciation of them. They can foster their lover's authentic self-expression and adorn them with compliments. From a young age, they envision themselves as parents because children are perfect expressions of their ability to create. The difficulty for these people lies in the reluctance and discomfort they experience when presenting their talents to the world. These chart holders are somewhat narrow in their focus. They enjoy developing specific talents, setting their own standards for quantity and quality, and relish in impressing themselves and their loved ones. Yet, impressing the world is really their greatest dream. Having the world recognize their creative gift and having it benefit the people of the world would represent their ultimate success. Unfortunately, their eleventh-house or Aquarius North Node makes it difficult and uncomfortable for them to relate to the public. These people are so focused on themselves and their own unique talents, that they can't appreciate the benefit of moving that focus to the group for the benefit of a larger cause or even for the sake of their own success in the group. Ultimately, they know the greatest success comes from learning to move outside themselves and create for the world not just for themselves.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at developing your own individuality and creativity.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 5th House or Leo ways.

Current Life Mission: You need to develop the ability to fit in with the crowd and deny your individuality when the purpose of the group is more important.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 11th House or Aquarius.

North Node in the 12th House or in Pisces & South Node in the 6th House or in Virgo...

Born knowing that focusing on a daily routine and specific tasks brings them peace, those with a sixth-house or Virgo South Node always prefer dealing with whatever matters are in their immediate path. It just seems like common sense to these people. These chart holders are born with a strong desire to take tasks seriously. If a job is started, it must be done correctly and finished properly. Structured time schedules and organized environments please them. They claim that if you take care of the little things, the big things will fall into place. However, they harbor a secret. To a large extent, they preach this philosophy because they simply don't want to address the big picture. It's easier and more comfortable to live in the world of details. If you spread yourself too thin, and concern yourself with everything, you won't be able to adequately attend to anything. Despite their twelfth-house or Pisces North Node constantly whispering in their ear to let go of the little things and see everything more holistically, they resist. The North Node is awkward and foreign. Yet, they have to try. Seeing the world in a broad scale is their real goal, and the closer they get to this vision, the more fulfilled and successful they feel.
Past Life Indication: You are experienced at focusing on the tasks at hand and completing each task correctly.
Your Past Life: Is always pulling you back into the 6th House or Virgo.

Current Life Mission: You need to develop the ability to see the big picture and avoid getting wrapped up in details.
Your Current Life: Pushes you into the 12th House or Pisces.
