As Virgo's ruling planet, Mercury finds a happy home in the sign. This chart holder is in comfortable terrain when it comes to mental processing and communication. Although Mercury in Virgo is quite adept at processing information, it doesn't move as quickly as Gemini, which is the other sign ruled by Mercury. Although quicker than most other signs, Virgo still prefers to take a little more time in order to maintain a higher accuracy level. Furthermore, although Virgo is a communicator like Gemini, it doesn't speak as much or as quickly as Gemini. For Virgo, the quality of what is said is more important than the quantity.

Virgo is a sign of contemplation and discrimination. When encountered with a piece of information, Virgo picks it apart. In contrast to Gemini, which puts pieces together that it gathers from here and there, Virgo's nature is to pull things apart to figure out how things operate and function. This takes time and thoroughness.

When starting a project or task, everything is thought through before action takes place. Virgos know that whatever can go wrong probably will, so they take time to plan to avoid errors that are both embarrassing to the sign and cost precious time.

Although Virgos are polite and calm, they do have a certain detached quality to them that allows a rather harsh, critical attitude to come through in their communication.

They won't think twice about critiquing or criticizing someone without regard to how it may hurt the other person's feelings. They don't mean to cause offense, but it doesn't occur to them that clarity of facts can ever be offensive. Often, it's their calm nature that greatly plays into this dynamic. They so calmly take their time in communicating their comments and do it so carefully that it comes across like a craft that they premeditate and enjoy. People shouldn't take offense. They mean no harm. It's simply their nature to remain calm and state the facts as they see them.

In actual debates, where each party knows their is a dispute to work through, their calm nature helps them. They rarely

get rattled and are able to keep a cool head. Their thoughts don't get scrambled and they can still think clearly even in the most stressful debates. However, their cool heads lack passion and forcefulness, so the more aggressive signs are likely to trample with the sheer volume, animation and drama that Virgo lacks. Therefore, although Mercury in Virgo is skilled in debating, they are really more of a behind the scenes talent.

Mercury in Virgo excels at anything where they are allowed space, time and freedom to sort through details and take in information. They do well in learning activities and are able to handle detailed studies.
